形態特徵

• Small evergreen trees; twigs grayish dark brown, terete or ridged, young twigs green, conspicuously ridged below petioles, glabrous; terminal buds subulate 2–4 mm long, glabrous.
• Leaves coriaceous, glabrous, elliptic to ovate, 2.5–5 cm long, 1.2–2.5 cm wide, apex shortly caudate and obtuse, with apiculate tip, base attenuate, margins recurved, entire or with 2 or 3 pairs of crenate-serrate teeth, midrib prominent on both surfaces, nerves 4 or 5 pairs, meeting in an intramarginal vein, petiole glabrous, 5–7 mm long, sulcate on upper surface.
• Inflorescences axillary, a short spikes or racems, sometimes paniculately branched like a panicle or a raceme, axis 0.5–1 cm long, glabrous, bracts and bracteoles persistent, minute, ovate to orbicular, 0.5–1 mm long, keeled, glabrous, apex acute, margin ciliolate. Calyx tube ca. 1 mm long, limb 1–1.5 mm long, deeply 5-lobed, lobes imbricate, semiorbicular to depressed ovate, apex obtuse or rounded, glabrous except margin ciliolate margin; corolla white, 3–3.5 mm long, lobes elliptic; stamens 35–50; disc pilose; style 3.5–4 mm long, glabrous, ovary 3-locular.
• Fruits violet, narrowly obovoid, often curved, crowned by persistent calyx lobes, 8–10 mm long excluding calyx limb, 4–5 mm in diam., 3-locular, stone smooth, mesocarp woody, seed straight, with embryo straight embryo.

分布

• 台灣 : Pingtung and Taitung, up to 1,100 m altitude; in thickets and forests.
